Eligible Texans face a Monday, October 5 deadline to register to vote or update their registration before the November 3 general election. The date falls on the next business day because the statutory 30-day deadline lands on Sunday, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

The state says applications must be delivered to a county voter registrar or postmarked by the deadline. Texans can verify their status through the state’s voter portal and contact their county registrar if information is missing or outdated. Texas does not offer fully online voter registration for new applicants.

The deadline carries added urgency after a state system problem produced a backlog of voter-registration applications at county election offices. The Associated Press reported that officials said the issue had been resolved and that counties have until early voting begins October 19 to process late-arriving records. Officials said voters whose names do not appear on the rolls may still cast provisional ballots while eligibility is reviewed.
