New Zealand Defence Force chief Tony Davies resigned on Friday after disclosing an inappropriate relationship from his time in unit command, according to the NZDF and Defence Minister Judith Collins. The NZDF said the matter has been referred to the Inspector-General of Defence for examination; an acting chief will take over during the transition.

The official announcements did not publicly identify the other person involved or provide further details. The resignation is not a finding of misconduct by any other individual.
