Updated Oct. 29, 2026: Nigeria’s first confirmed Bundibugyo Ebola patient was evacuated with her husband to Switzerland on Oct. 26, after Nigerian authorities cleared the transfer. The Associated Press reported that the couple arrived safely; the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said the patient was receiving care in Geneva and her husband was in isolation in Zurich.

At the time of the evacuation, Nigeria’s health minister said the country had no other confirmed Ebola cases. Contact monitoring and preparedness work remain important, but people identified as contacts are not confirmed cases. Public reports reviewed for this update give different contact totals, so this post does not present a single number as current.
