Indonesia’s official reserve assets stood at $146.3 billion at the end of September, down slightly from $146.5 billion a month earlier, Bank Indonesia reported on October 7.
The central bank attributed the movement to a mix of government foreign-loan withdrawals, tax and service receipts, maturing external-debt payments and operations intended to stabilize the rupiah amid global financial-market uncertainty. It said the reserve stock covered 5.3 months of imports, or 5.2 months when government external-debt servicing is included—above the commonly used three-month adequacy benchmark.
The data describe the reserve position at month-end and do not by themselves establish the future direction of the rupiah or capital flows.
